Howard Community College Honors Artistic Excellence this Summer with Visiting Artist and Retrospective Exhibitions
COLUMBIA, MD – Howard Community College (HCC) proudly presents a series of free gallery exhibitions this summer, making the world of arts and culture accessible to the community. Featuring the art of Richard T. Wright and visiting artist Chris Peregoy, the exhibitions will be on display at HCC through August 2024.
“We are excited to showcase these gallery exhibitions,” said Bill Watson, Horowitz Center Gallery Manager and Curator. “With over 90 years of experience between the artists, it is an honor to showcase the expertise of these true masters of their craft.”
The work of Chris Peregoy, the college’s 2024 visiting artist, will be featured in the Richard B. Talkin Family Art Gallery through Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024. Originally trained in traditional photographic practices, Peregoy’s current work crosses the boundaries between digital, traditional, and primitive photography and marries digital image-making with historical photographic processes and painting. Included in the exhibition are multiple solography pieces that were created on HCC’s Columbia campus during the spring. Peregoy’s images often deal with forgotten or imagined memories. His work with pinhole photography led him to form his own company, the Pinhole Blender Company, which sells his uniquely designed cameras worldwide.
Community members are also invited to enjoy the work of Richard T. Wright in The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery through Friday, Aug. 30, 2024. Curated by HCC visual arts faculty member Fahimeh Vahdat, the retrospective exhibition spans 50 years of the artist’s career. On display are more than 100 pieces leading viewers through Richard T. Wright’s artistic journey of printmaking, painting and photography. Most of his work will be available for purchase with pick-up after the exhibition.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. daily when the college is open. HCC will be closed on Thursday, July 4. For more information, please visit www.HowardCC.edu/Galleries.
