Howard County's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Columbia Housing Center (CHC) have announced a Student Rental Subsidy Program to help HCC students find and rent local housing. "This funding provides students and families vulnerable to housing insecurity the opportunity to receive assistance towards the cost of housing. Student Advocacy Day is an annual, statewide event where students from Maryland's 16 community colleges share their stories with legislators and advocate for community college funding. HCC's 13 students spent the day advocating for equitable funding to support services and cohort programs. Oluwatunmise (Tunmise) Eboda, SGA VP, was selected as the keynote speaker and shares, "Affordable education is an investment in our future, one where everyone has an opportunity to meet their full potential."

HCC students are taking center stage at the upcoming Kennedy Center Festival. “We’re honored to be recognized for our theatre work at HCC!” said Bill Gillett, professor of theatre and chair of performing arts. “Bringing our performance of Medea to the KCACTF festival in Pittsburgh, will be a thrilling event for the cast and crew, and their experience at the festival will be an amazing opportunity for students to develop and shine!” Read More!

HCC recently took center stage at the MD Department of Labor Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony during National Apprenticeship Week. The spotlight shone particularly bright on two Howard Community College students — Tiffany Gaither and Stacy Brown — who were both honored with the prestigious Outstanding Apprentice 2023 award. "It was an incredible and humbling experience to watch Tiffany and Stacy both win this coveted award,” said Jeff Richmond, director of apprenticeship & workforce innovation.
