Teach-out Procedure - 10.17.01
College Policy Number/Title:
When Howard Community College (HCC) discontinues an academic program, the program enters a teach-out period to provide students who are enrolled in the program the opportunity to complete the program requirements.
Academic program discontinuations require approval by the board of trustees upon recommendation by HCC’s Curriculum Committee , the vice president of teaching and learning, and the college president.
Once approved for discontinuation, the program enters the teach-out period at the beginning of the academic year the program is removed from the college catalog. During the teach-out period, no new students are enrolled in the program, marketing of the program is discontinued, and students working toward completion of the program must complete the program requirements within the teach-out period or select a different program.
The teach-out period ends after three academic years or when there are no longer students pursuing completion of the program, whichever occurs first.
