Statements to the News Media
Howard Community College welcomes coverage by the news media. In order to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with public information regulation, all inquiries from the news media must be referred to the office of public relations and marketing. All public statements to the news media pertaining to the college, its operations, employees, or students must have prior clearance from the office of public relations and marketing.
News Releases and Media Advisories
The distribution of news releases and media advisories serves as an important tool for the dissemination of information to the community. The office of public relations and marketing (PRM) maintains comprehensive general and specialized media contact lists. PRM will determine whether to pursue coverage and the priority of the request based on best practices and available resources.
Internal Requests for Public Relations and Marketing
College employees requesting public relations and marketing support must contact PRM through its services request form at least four weeks in advance. When appropriate, other measures will be explored such as scheduling a photographer or setting up an interview.

Promotional Materials
The office of public relations and marketing reserves the right to design, review, and approve college promotional materials (refer to policy 61.03, and procedure 61.03.01, Printed and Digital Content).
Social Media
Social media accounts representing the college must be approved through the office of public relations and marketing (refer to policy 61.18, Social Media and Networking, and procedure 61.18.01, Social Media Accounts).
Advertising
Advertising for the college is managed by the office of public relations and marketing. The purchase, placement, messaging, and design of all ads must be coordinated through the office of public relations and marketing for consistency, quality control, conformity to the college’s brand, and adherence to the strategic public relations and marketing goals of the college.
