
Suspension and Dismissal of Employees Without Term of Contract Procedure - 63.12.04
College Policy Number/Title:
Howard Community College employees without term of contract are “at-will” employees. At-will employment means that employment may be terminated by the college at any time, for any reason, or for no reason. This procedure applies to employees without term of contract as defined in procedure 63.03.01, Employment Definitions of the policy 63.03, Employment.
The president or designee is authorized to dismiss or impose an unpaid suspension on such employees without notice and an opportunity to be heard. There are no appeal rights for employees without term of contract. In cases where an employee without a term of contract has a contract for a limited term, such as an adjunct faculty member, the president or designee may dismiss or suspend the employee for cause after providing the employee notice of the suspension or dismissal and an opportunity to be heard at a meeting with the president or designee. There is no right of appeal.
