Physical Therapist Assistant
Improving the quality of patients' lives through movement.
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) are licensed technical health care workers who, under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, provide services to promote movement to reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.
HCC's Physical Therapist Assistant associate career degree is a full-time, daytime, fall semester entry program designed for successful graduates to be eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination needed for licensure and employment as skilled PTAs. In compliance with CAPTE standards, public results for the HCC Physical Therapist Assistant program's cohort student outcomes for graduation rate, licensure examination pass rate, and employment rate for the recent 2-year average are available in the PTA Program Outcomes Report.
The curriculum instructs students in safe and effective techniques for therapeutic soft tissue massage and other mobilization techniques, patient education, exercise training, use of modalities such as electrotherapy and ultrasound, and measuring patient/client response and performance changes as a result of the treatment provided. Essential to the student’s development as a PTA, the program includes clinical practice experience within a student skills lab as well as at a clinical site.
