Medication Technician Training at HCC
In just 20 hours, you can expand your skills and responsibilities as a direct care professional by becoming a Medication Technician. This course includes hands-on training in a supervised lab setting, allowing you to practice essential skills before entering the field.
Through specialized certification training, Medication Technicians gain skills in:
- Administering oral, topical, and rectal medications
- Following dosage protocols and medication safety procedures
- Monitoring patients for side effects or adverse reactions
- Practicing infection control
- Maintaining accurate documentation and legal records
- Communicating with healthcare teams
- Ensuring compliance with state and facility regulations
This program meets Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) certification requirements. Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for the Certified Medication Technician (CMT) designation through MBON, positioning you for new opportunities in long-term care, residential facilities, and home health. 2.0 CEUs. Course Prerequisites
To take the Medication Technician course, you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a Social Security Number or TIN
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Be employed in a home care, assisted living, or memory care facility (in any role) while enrolled in the course
