Learning Opportunities for Adults with Developmental Disabilities
At Howard Community College, adults with developmental disabilities find opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed. Our Inclusive Learning Programs provide the tools students need to build independence, gain job skills, and prepare for meaningful participation in the community.
For over two decades, students in the College Opportunities for Real-life Engagement (CORE) program have developed confidence while exploring practical topics in a supportive, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
CORE Program
The CORE Half-Day Program is offered year-round and meets on campus Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5:30 p.m., with online sessions on Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Students aged 18+ with developmental disabilities strengthen reading and math skills, build social connections, and gain greater independence through lessons that promote community engagement and daily living skills.
Participants must be able to safely navigate campus and abide by the HCC student code of conduct with minimal support. Placement in CORE 1 or CORE 2 depends on academic ability and level of independence. All prospective students must schedule an intake interview to determine eligibility and class placement by emailing ILP@HowardCC.edu or calling 443-518-4146.
Program cost: $380.00 per month (includes $310 in fees).
