Accommodations
Reasonable accommodations at a higher education institution refer to modifications or adjustments made in the academic setting to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to programs, courses, services, and activities. These accommodations are designed to create a level playing field for all students without compromising the essential elements of a course or program or lowering/altering academic standards.
Determining accommodations is done on a case-by-case basis through a collaborative process involving the Disability Support Services (DSS) office and students. When reviewing accommodation requests, DSS may need to consult with faculty to ensure that the proposed accommodation is appropriate and does not conflict with course requirements. In some cases, an alternative accommodation may be suggested by DSS to effectively address disability-related barriers.
