
Communication Access Services
Sign language interpreting services are provided for Deaf and hard-of-hearing credit students registered with the Disability Support Services (DSS) office. There are two processes to request interpreters, one for your course and one for outside of course events.
How to Request your Accommodations
To receive Sign language Interpreting accommodations for course(s) and any additional accommodations you are eligible for, follow the complete steps. You must select Interpreting accommodation to request Interpreting services.
- Log in to AIM and request your Interpreting accommodation at least 4 weeks before the semester.
- Complete the authorization and any other E-form agreements related to your accommodation.
- Request your accommodation(s). For more directions refer to Registered DSS Students.
How to Request Interpreting Services for an Outside of Class Time Event or Activity
To request an interpreter for a class group project meeting, for an HCC appointment, a tutoring session, or to attend an event on campus, follow the steps below.
- Submit your request 2 weeks before the date of the event.
- Log in to AIM.
- Navigate to the left-hand side panel and under My Accommodations choose Communication Access.
- On the top right corner of the screen, select Custom Request.
- Choose Schedule Custom Request.
- Select the course that applies to your request for an Interpreter for meetings or events outside of class.
- Select Continue to Specific Custom request then complete the provided form.
- Select Submit Custom Request once the form is completed.
Policy of Absences
If the student is aware that they are going to miss a class, they must contact HCC Interpreting Services and the classroom interpreter at least 24 hours in advance. For more information refer to the E-Form in AIM.
Policy of Lateness
If the student is late for class, the interpreter will wait for 20 minutes before leaving.
