Placement Testing
Super Saturday, August 23rd: Take your placement exams in person from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come early!
The Test Center provides placement testing to assist new students enrolled in credit programs with selecting the right classes to begin or restart their college education. Students may also take select examinations that offer the opportunity to receive college credit for knowledge gained through previous courses or industry experience.
- Howard Community College offers three computer-based tests: Guided Student Placement (GSP) or Next-Generation ACCUPLACER for English and ALEKS PPL for Mathematics, administered year-round.
- The results of the assessments, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection.
- Placement tests are administered after you have been admitted.
- All incoming students are required to take a placement test unless they meet any of the multiple measures stated below. Please contact the Admissions office if you meet any of the criteria.
