Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Training
Howard Community College (HCC), in partnership with North American Trade Schools (NATS), offers comprehensive Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training programs to prepare you for a career in commercial transportation. Whether you're pursuing a Class A or Class B CDL, you'll gain the classroom instruction, hands-on driving experience, and testing preparation needed to build the skills employers value.
Upon successful completion of your training, you'll take the CDL skills exam with a certified Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) tester. Once earned, a CDL license in Maryland is typically valid for eight years.
Choose Your CDL Path
Class A CDL
Class A CDL allows you to operate combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, where the trailer weighs more than 10,000 pounds. It's the best choice if you're interested in long-haul, regional, or local trucking and offers the widest range of commercial driving opportunities.
Class B CDL
Class B CDL allows you to operate single vehicles, such as straight trucks, dump trucks, and some delivery vehicles. It's ideal for those interested in local driving careers in transportation, construction, or public works.
