Become a Class B Commercial Driver

Start your career driving delivery trucks, vans, dump trucks and other vehicles related to the transport industry with HCC's Class B CDL training program. Designed for individuals with no prior commercial driving experience, the program provides classroom instruction, hands-on training, and testing preparation to help you earn your Class B Commercial Driver's License.

A Class B CDL can open the door to a variety of entry-level careers in, construction, delivery, and public works.

What You'll Learn

- Safe driving principles	- Pre-trip inspections
- Cargo handling and securement	- Shifting techniques
- Air brake systems	- Basic driving maneuvers

Program Details

Eligible Candidates
Applicants must:
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Be at least 21 years old
- Must be a US citizen
- Be able to read course materials and road signs in English
- Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and drug screening within 1 week of class start.
- CDL B Learner's Permit: must be obtained at least 2 weeks before the scheduled class start date to ensure that the student can test.
Class Schedule and Location
- Total Hours: 48
- Schedule: Friday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30p.m., weekdays, 6 days
  - Session 1: Sept 25–Oct 2
  - Session 2: Oct 16-Oct 23
- Classroom Training: NATS’ facility at Security Square Mall
- Driving Range: NATS’ facility at Security Square Mall
Prior to the start of class, online Readiness and Screening assignments will need to be completed. Details and instructions will be provided.
Cost
- Program Readiness and Screening Course: $50
  (Required before enrolling in the full CDL program)
- CDL Training Program: $2,195
  (Includes exam fees through an MVA-approved examiner provided by NATS)

Ready to Get Started?

Before enrolling in the CDL program, schedule an appointment with the Rider School by calling 443-518-4808 or emailing Ride@HowardCC.edu. During your appointment, you'll review the program's mandatory licensure requirements, learn what to expect, and determine whether the program is the right fit for you. Financial aid and payment plan options are available.

Once you enroll in the CDL Readiness class, you'll need to provide a copy of your valid driver's license and complete a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and drug screening (at your expense) performed by a licensed medical examiner. All enrollment requirements must be completed at least five business days before the start of your CDL program.
